Importance of history highlighted ![]() LAHORE: (Thursday, April 24, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that the subject of history is of great importance in Western countries, but it is not among our priorities here. He was addressing a seminar on ‘Health at the Workplace: Internal and External Perspectives’ organized by the Department of History and Pakistan Studies, Punjab University at the auditorium of the Institute of Chemistry. On this occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain Dr Zahoor Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Mehboob Hussain, faculty members and a large number of students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said that history is a subject that is specially taught in America. He said that studying history helps in knowing the past, examining the present and planning for the future. He said that many eminent civil servants and bureaucrats have been produced by the Department of History of Quaid-e-Azam University. He said that he wants the students of PU to meet successful people and benefit from their experiences. He said that students should work hard in their higher education years so that they can benefit in practical life. Dr Zahoor Ahmed gave a presentation to the participants on taking care of health at the workplace. He said that the symptoms of mental illness also appear physically. He said that on the one hand, a doctor is examined for the treatment of physical diseases, on the other hand, instead of a psychologist; people go to a sympathizer or friend for mental problems. He said that for the improvement and peace in the society, there is a need to change negative thinking and attitudes. He said that a history student has a broader vision. He said that the purpose of education should not be only to get a job. He advised the students that if you want to progress, the process of learning should always continue. Prof Dr Mehboob Hussain said that Dr Zahoor has been engaged in diplomatic duties on behalf of Pakistan for three decades. He said that Dr Zahoor is a successful diplomat and has excellent discussions on many aspects of human psychology.
